DRESS CODES

Dress codes are not that simple…

Dress codes cause more harm than good. They reinforce racist stereotypes, society body standards, rape culture, able-bodied, gender bias and prevent gender expression.

Dress codes can also alienate people who are experiencing clothing insecurity and poverty.

Dress codes have an affect on mental health and identity formation.

Dress codes also target Black people, people of color, women and girls and the LGBTQ+ community.

The CROWN (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Act passed in PA. The Act will expand the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act to protect natural hair textures and styles tied to racial and cultural identity. The new law strengthens civil rights protections, affirms the dignity of all Pennsylvanians, and advances real freedom and expands opportunity by ensuring every person can work and thrive without bias based on their hair (https://www.pa.gov/).
