Fashion Activism
What is the role of clothing in advocacy?
Our Initiatives
The Social Justice and Fashion program explores the powerful, often overlooked role that fashion plays as a tool for resistance, identity, and social change within historical and contemporary justice movements. We examine how clothing serves as a primary medium for navigating complex topics such as sexual health, bodily autonomy, and consent. By analyzing the intersections of fashion and sex education from the “Sunday Best” of the Civil Rights era to the “What Were You Wearing?” Me Too era.
The Affirming Fashion Project is an advocacy and community organizing group with the mission to build a community of Black, LGBTQIA+, and allies through collaborations and partnerships to bring needed attention, education, and resources to the lack of affirming fashion and clothing poverty in Black and LGBTQIA+ communities.
The Affirming Fashion Project is an initiative under Prevention Meets Fashion’s Affirming Fashion Program. Our goal is to bring community members together to address clothing insecurity and poverty, access to affirming fashion and create a space for people to express themselves authentically.
The Fashion & Trauma Support Group addresses trauma related to clothing. PMF hosts trauma-informed support groups and educational sessions to help survivors and others reclaim their identity and body autonomy through clothing choices.
